Lock 81 Brewery is named after Batchworth Lock in Rickmansworth, where two friends honed their skills on a homebrew kit, studied for brewing qualifications and dreamt of starting their own brewery. James eventually moved to Australia and after years of telling everyone he was going to start a brewery, Henry decided it was time to do something about it and started brewing commercially in 2019. Our goal is to produce consistent, interesting and flavourful beers, using the best ingredients and exciting new hop varieties from around the world. We’re a genuine nanobrewery, regularly brewing on a two-barrel system in a small industrial unit in Watford, just down the road from Rickmansworth. Our small system lets us experiment with new beers and expand our range when we find something that we like. We’ve made the decision to invest what we have in equipment and cold storage that will make the best quality beer rather than a larger brewery. All Lock 81 beers are vegan friendly. Our beer undergoes extensive cold conditioning to remove yeast before carbonation. It is unfined and unfiltered to maintain maximum flavour and aroma.
